Clarice Allgood

Clarice Allgood is a functional potter and teaching artist based in Minneapolis, MN. In 2020, Allgood was the Fogelberg Studio Fellow at Northern Clay Center and in 2023 granted the Pottery Museum of Red Wing Award. From a free range childhood to an academic education in philosophy comes a perspective rooted in thoughtfulness and curiosity. She considers the pots she chooses to make as tools. Some are tools of conviviality, some are meant to enrich what she calls “quiet acts of self-reliance,” such as bowls for knitting, watering pots for gardening, utensils for cooking and bookends to organize reading. These pots inhabit the world she wants to live, honoring solitude and connection. Though Allgood is thoroughly involved in the making and conceptualizing processes, relinquishing her work to the unpredictability of the soda kiln is an important part of her practice.
