Julia Walther

Pots are one of the many daily choices we make to build our lives, and I hope to create nudges of humor and delight by having my work in the homes and lives of others. I'm interested in myths, categories, and the stories we create out of nothing to explain our experiences and surroundings, and see pots as a vehicle for those ideas to play out, both on the surface and as objects to collect and categorize in their own right. The cycle of observing, making, and observing again is what makes us human. I make the work my hands crave, handling the clay at many stages to imbue all the joy I can into each object. I love scribbling through slip, brushing off burrs, and the deep satisfaction that comes from glazing both interior and exterior of a pot with one quick motion of the wrist. My hope is that the energy I generate in making is carried through the firing and out into kitchen cabinets everywhere.
